The future of cell phones

Bob Iannucci is Nokia's Head of R&D. There is a very interesting (and short) interview of Mr. Iannuci in MIT Technology Review where he talks about some of the directions Nokia is heading in terms of phone features and design. 

The devices we are currently using are really "stone age" gadgets ! Just have a look at this technology which will allow high definition TV projection from your cell phone. As Bob puts it, the viewing experience on a cell phone cannot be different from a 1024x768 screen, or the phone industry will not be able to claim they have brought mobile Internet to life !

Just imagine, as a business traveler, being able to open up your phone in a hotel room and have real-time video conferencing with the image projected on the wall and stereo sound. We're not far.

Une nouvelle façon de partager ses photos

Une société coréenne a développé un procédé laser qui permet de projeter contre un mur sur 47 cm les photos de son mobile. Il s'agit tout simplement d'une idée géniale. Partager ses photos en visionnant son écran est très frustrant : c'est petit, le contraste n'est pas fameux et l'écran est souvent rayé, bref on n'y voit rien. Là, on va pouvoir sortir le grand jeu et revenir au bon vieux diaporama des familles ! Espérons que la qualité de projection soit au RDV. LG et Samsung seront les premiers fabricants à équiper leur mobiles de cette nouvelle fonctionnalité. Source : servicesmobiles.

A partir du mois de mai il sera possible d'enregistrer des noms de domaines en dotmobi. Ouvert aux professionnels, ce service sera étendu au grand public à la fin de l'été 2006. Le lancement de cette nouvelle extension s'accompagne de la publication de "best pratices" et de standards pour créer des services bien adaptés à la téléphonie mobile, téléchargeables ici. L'initiative est supportée par Ericsson, GSM Association, Hutchison, Microsoft, Nokia, Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, T-Mobile, Telefónica Móviles, TIM, Vodafone et... Google.
